Geological Problems Reported
A small fault was found in SW 16-T6S-R1W. This fault zone was reported to have widened to the southeast. Some erosional areas in the 1923 pit showed no coal at all. The overburden was 10 to 20 feet of fine-grained glacial material with a base of boulders that persisted throughout the pit. Below the glacial deposits was 3 to 16 feet of shale that was easily removed. The coal was reported to contain few impurities. Some old works were encountered, and the pillars were mined.
